Syndrome X (a.k.a. Metabolic Syndrome) The Silent Assassin
Metabolic Syndrome or Syndrome X is rapidly growing to epidemic proportions but there is a good chance you may never have
heard of it before.
The focus of the medical world has been on the end stage degenerative diseases that this Syndrome can lead to in time, yet there are some very real and proactive steps you can take to avoid having to deal with diseases like diabetes or heart disease later on in life.
Given the explosive growth in the number of people in western world countries that are developing type 2 diabetes (up by over 600% in the past 30 years) and the fact that heart disease is the leading cause of premature death (41% of all deaths) you will be well served to find out as much as you can about insulin resistance and what it does to your health.
While you may well be in fantastic health right now (and I sincerely hope you are) it is the tiny choices we make on a daily basis that have a compounding effect on our bodies in an almost imperceptible way.
Friend Or Foe?
Exacerbated by the processsed foods we eat, the sedentary lifestyles most of us lead, the diminishing nutritional value of the
worlds food supply and the polluted environments in which we live, there is little wonder our body's defensive mechanisms are
struggling to cope.
The massive amounts of free radicals that these conditions generate, causes significant damage within our cells unless sufficient quantities of antioxidants are introduced to neutralise them.
So what exactly are the problems associated with Syndrome X?
On the following pages we illustrate the characteristics of the Metabolic Syndrome and introduce strategies to get off this slippery dip.
We can not afford to ignore this epidemic!! Especially when the prevention is so much easier than the cure.
Let us show you what we mean.
