What Is Metabolic Syndrome ?

Although you may not have heard of Syndrome X, Metabolic Syndrome or Dysmetabolic Syndrome (same thing) there is every chance you could have been living with it for the past decade or three.

If you have been battling with your weight for most of your life and have tried most diets out there without lasting success, (don't you just hate the rebound effect when you come off a diet?) there is a good chance that Syndrome X could be the root cause of your health issues.

Unless you can identify and treat the CAUSE, you will be obliged to continually treat the SYMPTOMS.

Dr Sandra Cabot says " I describe Syndrome X as the chemical imbalance that makes you fat. Syndrome X is the most powerful medical reason why people CANNOT lose weight. Indeed Syndrome X makes it virtually impossible to lose weight unless it is specifically treated."

Worse than that, however, is that Metabolic Syndrome is widely recognised by the medical profession as being a condition that eventually leads to heart disease and/ or type 2 diabetes, two of the major epidemics facing the modern world.

This statement may sound alarmist, however I invite you to do your own research on these trends and try to get your head around the numbers.

As can be seen on the above chart, cardiovascular disease and diabetes kill more people by a ratio of 3:1 and a large percentage of that mortality rate is totally preventable.

What Causes Metabolic Syndrome?

Essentially the root cause of Syndrome X is the disturbance in the function of the hormone insulin.

The body can become resistant to the action of insulin and to compensate, over produces. This over production can be triggered by a number of factors. Chief amongst these is an incorrect diet.

We are literally eating ourselves to death as our foods get faster and faster while our bodies are moving ever more slowly and less often.

Lack of fitness and exercise is the second major factor in the development of Syndrome X. Studies have clearly shown the correlation between insulin resistant metabolisms and sedentary lifestyles.

Medications such as oral contraceptives, diuretics, steroids and cortisone can also play a role in the chemical imbalance that is found in individuals with the Syndrome. Excess alcohol consumption can also have an impact.

As you can see there are a number of factors at work here increasing the complexity of the ailment.

If left unchecked, it can lead to a myriad of health issues.

This combination of symptoms when found in one individual, has been dubbed Syndrome X.

These symptoms include-

* High levels of insulin hormone

* Abnormalities in blood glucose

* Insulin Resistance

* Abnormalities in blood fat profile

* Overweight, especially abdominal (belly) fat

* Possibly high levels of uric acid

* High blood pressure history

These symptoms appeared to have no common link initially, however they have now been clearly established to stem from insulin resistance in the host thanks to 20 plus years of research by Dr Gerald Reaven and his team. Although Metabolic Syndrome is commonly found in overweight people, it has also been shown to occur in non-obese and non-diabetic individuals.

The good news is that we now know how to overcome it. A simple three prong strategy of proper diet , modest exercise and nutritional supplementation will stop the downward spiral and give you a new lease on life.

How Common is Metabolic Syndrome?

Short answer - very common.

Various studies have taken a punt on predictions with numbers varying from 25% to 75% of the population in countries like Australia, Canada, Finland, Denmark, Germany, United Kingdom, United States etc. Most of the developed nations of the world are groaning under the weight of the combined mass of their respective populations.

Given that the proportion of people estimated to be overweight or obese in these countries is estimated to be in excess of 50%, the real number of folks who are likely to have this affliction tends toward the upper end of these estimates.

As already mentioned, not everyone who is overweight has Syndrome X - and not everyone who has Syndrome X is overweight.

The real danger though, is that out of every four people that do have Metabolic Syndrome, one will develop type 2 diabetes and the other three will experience significant damage to their cardiovascular system and/or develop any one of a number of other degenerative diseases.

None of us wants to age faster than we have to!

But the best part is that once you get Dysmetabolic Syndrome under control using the simple strategies outlined on our solutions page, you will experience permanent natural weightloss as a side-effect!!!!!

How cool is that?
